BE DIVERSITY

You are a leader of an organisation. You are faced with tackling the ‘diversity issue’. But tackling this issue is uncomfortable. After all, who are you to speak about issues such as race, gender, or gay rights? Many organisations fail to tackle diversity issues effectively. Leaders are either sceptical, apprehensive, or simply lost on what to do. In practice, this leads to organisations being criticised for a lack of action. With customers, shareholders and even staff members being vocal, there is no longer a place to hide. This approach is different to the usual diversity training. Rather than giving theoretical concepts or be critical of certain individuals, it will instead give you a chance to reflect of why diversity matters to you. This is based upon the CUBE methodology from my book, ‘Make Diversity Matter to You’.

Program

Make diversity matter to you

You want to do something to tackle the ‘diversity issue’ we face within society. Perhaps you are a professional or manager within an organisation. Or maybe you are someone who is simply interested in diversity and are keen to learn more about what you can do. But tackling this issue is uncomfortable. After all, who are you to speak out about issues such as race, gender, or gay rights? As individuals, we want to do something about this, but we do not know how. Meanwhile, many organisations fail to tackle diversity issues effectively. Leaders are either sceptical, apprehensive, or simply lost on what to do. This programme is different to the usual diversity training. Rather than giving theoretical concepts or critique the system, it will instead give you insights to understand why diversity matters to you in a deeper way, whilst also giving you the tools to make tangible change to the people around you. By harnessing methodologies based upon transformational coaching, this programme will shift you from a state of paralysis to one of being an active diversity champion.

Make DIversity Matter to You

This book is to help you understand what we mean by diversity, and why it matters for you, whatever your starting point is. I want to shift the way we look at it, and the best way is to get a deeper understanding of ourselves. I created the CUBE model - culture, upbringing, biases and (lived) experience - a self-reflective exercise to help you understand yourself. From here, it makes it far easier to relate to others, whatever their background. This book looks to help you build your own understanding of the subject. I will not propose any cookie-cutter way that you ‘should’ think, rather I will introduce concepts and models to help you frame your own understanding. This will give you far more confidence to engage with the subject. Throughout this book, I will also share my experiences to help give you a clearer understanding. After all, nothing quite gets a point across like a story.
